Pin Chen began her musical studies learning the violin from her father at age 6. She started teaching violin lessons to children and adults at 14 and set her sights on becoming a music educator at 15. Ms. Chen studied violin under Blair Milton at Northwestern University and graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in instrumental and general music education with Department Honors. She began her professional teaching career at the Creative, Performing, and Media Arts Magnet Middle School in 2003. She subsequently taught at various high schools in Southern California before landing the coveted position of Orchestra Director at Arcadia High School in 2010, where she is currently teaching four orchestras and over 230 string students.
Known for her artistry as a conductor, she graduated at the top of her class with a Master of Music degree in Music Education with a Conducting Specialization at Colorado State University, Fort Collins, and is now a sought-after guest conductor for honor groups such as the All-Southern California Honor Orchestra and the Beverly Hills Unified School District Honor Orchestra. Ms. Chen has been a conductor for the Pasadena Youth Symphony Orchestra since 2012 and is currently conducting the Sinfonia Orchestra. She has conducted at Carnegie Hall in New York and Haydn Hall in Austria. As a violinist, she has performed in major music halls around the world, including Dallas, Houston, Washington D.C., Los Angeles, Beijing, Taipei, and Singapore.
Pin Chen has served the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association as Vice President of Orchestra Education and as a clinician at the SCSBOA conference and String Day. She is also an SCSBOA festival adjudicator and adjudicates for various orchestra festivals like the Riverside City College Orchestra Festival and Image International Music Festival.
Ms. Chen is an ardent believer in quality music education for all and utilizing music to serve the greater community. As such, Ms. Chen is the President/Founder and Music Director of Crescendo Young Musicians Guild, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization for music education, performance, and community service for youth of all socioeconomic backgrounds in Los Angeles and the San Gabriel Valley. Ms. Chen is also the faculty advisor of the Arcadia High School chapter of the Tri-M Music Honor Society, encouraging volunteerism in musical activities for its members. Pin Chen is listed in the Cambridge Who’s Who of Executives and Professionals and is an active member of the Music Teachers Association of California as a private violin and viola teacher, the California Orchestra Directors Association, the National Association for Music Education, and the California Music Educators Association.
